Ellis is the chair of Shepherds Bush Housing Group, which has had high levels of tenant involvement for many years, and works as a housing consultant. His consultancy includes mentoring housing providers in reviewing their services and involving their tenants in developing local offers under the TSA standards. He also works with providers to prepare for short notice and full services inspections, and the development and implementation of improvement plans. He formerly worked as Housing Association Co-ordinator at the Commission responsible for the housing association inspection programme, and supporting links with the regulator and the National Housing Federation at a national level. He was responsible for piloting the development of short notice housing association inspections and worked in housing association inspection for seven years. Before that he was a policy advisor and tenant services manager at the Housing Corporation, a leader of the Brent Priority Estates Programme, community development officer in Greenwich, and senior fieldworker for the London Tenants’ Organisation.
