Exit DLA - Enter the new Personal Independence Payment
The government is scrapping Disability Living Allowance (DLA) and replacing it with a new ‘Personal Independence Payment’ (PIP), which it says will be targeted ‘at those who really need it’.
From 2013/14, all new and existing claimants of DLA aged 16 to 64 will be required to undergo an assessment, regardless of the length of their original award. The existing rules that automatically qualify people with certain impairments or conditions will be removed.
If someone loses their DLA, it is highly likely that they may also lose some of their Housing Benefit and possibly other benefits such as Income Support.
The Bill is progressing through parliament. This one-day course gives you all the practical detail that's currently known about the proposed new benefit and the timetable for transition to it.
You will learn:
- The main implications for your services and service users
- At-a-glance differences between DLA and the new PIP
- Rules of entitlement
- Components and rates
- The activities and what they mean
- To describe how a health condition might fit the descriptors
- Who may lose out under PIP
- What you need to do now to minimise the impact.
Who will benefit from attending?
An essential course for everyone who works in a supportive role with people who are ill or disabled, and for everyone wanting to explore this benefit in detail.
