Faith and cultural awareness
As Britain has become a more diverse society, with people from countries across the world settling here, the challenges for organisations to ensure they deliver culturally sensitive services have grown. Alongside these cultural sensitivities comes the need to deliver services that meet people’s religious requirements.
This course aims to give delegates an awareness of the practices of Islam, Judaism, Sikhism and Hinduism that services should take account of, along with an understanding of how to be sensitive to cultural differences.
Key elements of the training include:
- Religious holy days
- Food requirements
- Prayer times and practices
- Modesty
- Gender issues
- Rituals
- Spoken language
- Body language
- Effective engagement
- Shared ethics
- Tackling racism
- The law on religion and belief.
In addition, focus can be given to particular faiths or cultures where requested, or a bespoke training course created. Representatives from specific faiths can also be involved where appropriate.
Who should attend?
Staff, board members, volunteers and residents’ representatives who wish to engage more effectively with different faiths or cultures, or who wish to improve their knowledge of faith and cultural differences.
