Vacancy title: Homeless Persons’ Hostel Officer
Organisation: Harrogate Borough Council
Vacancy description: Reporting to the Temporary Accommodation Officer, you will join a team of staff responsible for the day to day management of the council’s temporary accommodation for the homeless.

Spending most of your time on site, you will ensure the effective management and security of temporary accommodation, providing a stable environment for residents, minimising disruption and incidents of anti-social behaviour and offering advice and assistance to residents. You will also take part in an out of hours’ rota system responding to homeless emergencies throughout the District.

You will work largely on your own initiative, organising your own workload, often having to make on the spot decisions.

You should have experience of dealing with the public in a wide range of situations. You should have an appreciation of the circumstances that cause homelessness and be able to identify solutions that help address the range of problems experienced by households in temporary accommodation. Previous housing experience and/or working with other agencies is preferred, but not essential.

You should have a clean driving licence and use of a vehicle for which an appropriate allowance is payable.

As you will have access to children you will need a disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau, the council will issue the application form and pay the fee.
